Importance of LES-AC
Several decades ago, the UN General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions concerning developing countries, some of which established UNCTAD and UNIDO. UNIDO focuses, inter alia, on innovation, productivity, investment and technology promotion. UNCTAD aims mainly at promoting trade, growth and sustainable development.
Throughout the years, UNCTAD, UNIDO and other international bodies provided developing countries with technical and industrial assistance. With the help of these entities, developing countries successfully sponsored several UN resolutions and were able to insert many provisions in the multilateral trade agreements recognizing their right to development, encouragement of R&D and their right to get their share in the technological advancement.
The role of LES-Arab Countries is evident at two levels. Its role on the individual scale is embodied in education, providing technical assistance and encouraging research. As for the public level, LES- Arab Countries assists governments in setting strategic plans for technological development and lobbying before international bodies.
LES-Arab Countries is connected to a worldwide network through its membership in the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI). Accordingly, in cooperation with other LES National and Regional Societies, LES-Arab Countries provides assistance to its members beyond the boundaries of the Arab countries. The wide span of LES-Arab Countries gives its members the opportunity to organize, attend and be up-to-date with international events in the field of licensing and technology transfer.
LES-Arab Countries is a platform for exchanging ideas, exploring creative initiatives and having a unified center of work in the Arab world. Thus, vigorous efforts should be made not only by LES-Arab Countries, but also by all those concerned from the academic, industrial, commercial and legal sectors.
